About Jack & Jill Dance
jackandjill.dance is the official platform for the Jack & Jill competitions hosted by BachataNights and Dio Club at Seven Dance. Here you’ll find transparent scoring, detailed rankings, and archives of every event we organize. Our goal is to bring the excitement of social dance competitions to our community, celebrate our dancers, and make each edition better than the last.


Official Competition Rules
1. Registration
Registration is individual and done as either Leader or Follower.
Changing roles is not allowed once the competition has begun.
Participants must have read and understood the rules before competing.
2. Partner Pairing
Partners are assigned randomly in each round.
Every round is danced with a different person.
Personal selections or intentionally repeating partners are not allowed.
3. Música
All songs are chosen by the organization.
Every round uses social bachata: traditional, modern, or remix.
Participants do not know the song in advance.
4. Round Format
The competition may include:
Initial / Qualifying Round
Semifinal
Final
The number of rounds depends on the total number of participants.
In each round:
All competitors dance in a group and judges evaluate individually.
Judges may request partner changes during the round (“rotate”).
5. Judging Criteria
Judges primarily evaluate:
Connection
Quality of communication between Leader and Follower.
Musicality
Interpretation of rhythm, accents, and changes in energy.
Social Technique
Clarity, control, flow, and safety within social dancing.
Style and Expression
Natural stage presence, without exaggeration or choreography.
Adaptability
Ability to dance smoothly with different partners.
6. Prohibitions
No acrobatic tricks, dangerous lifts, or movements that compromise partner safety.
No pre-choreographed routines; Jack & Jill must be improvised social dancing.
Disrespectful behavior toward partners, judges, or the audience is not allowed.
Blocking space or invading other competitors’ space in an unsportsmanlike way is prohibited.
7. Clothing
Social or casual clothing is allowed.
Dangerous accessories (large metal jewelry, unprotected heels, etc.) are not permitted.
Participants are encouraged to avoid clothing that hinders connection (gloves, overly loose sleeves, etc.).
8. Results
Results are determined by the judging panel.
Judges’ decisions are final and not subject to appeal.
In the event of a tie, judges will deliberate until reaching a consensus.
9. Recordings & Rights
By participating, dancers consent to the organization using photos and videos.
This material may be used on social media, websites, and for future promotions.
10. Conduct & Sportsmanship
Participants must maintain a respectful, positive, and friendly attitude throughout the event.
Toxic behavior, mockery, or aggressive attitudes may result in immediate disqualification.
